One of NYC's grittiest guitar slingers slaps you around and before you know it you're beggin' for more. In the fine tradition of the Stooges & all-nighters @ CBGB's, this is the R'N'R goods. 3 titles just in, "The Good The Bad & The Ugly", "Parallax In Wonderland", and "Hell's Kitchen".
V/A- "O.S.T. Quadrophenia" CD (Polydor) Lotsa tunes by the Who plus a bunch of soul classics.
Strung Out- "Exile In Oblivion" CD (Fat Wreck Chords) Release date is Nov. 2nd. One of FAT’s earliest signings, STRUNG OUT have always been a reliable constant in the punk rock
scene. Known for delivering records that are musically technical and aggressive, STRUNG OUT make
sure to retain a strong hold on the melody and emotion that they masterfully work into each of their songs.
Constantly growing and modifying their sound and approach, Exile In Oblivion is truly the band’s
heaviest album to date! To ensure that their musical vision for the album would transfer properly in the
recording studio, the band employed Matt Hyde (Slayer, Sum 41, Hatebreed, etc.) as the producer and
engineer. His eclectic resume of work matched perfectly with STRUNG OUT’s unorthodox approach to
SoCal style punk rock. Exile In Oblivion is truly the next logical step in the band’s career, and is sure to
please their fans, and capture the interest of people new to the band!
Turing Machine- Zwei" CD (French Kiss) Brooklyn instrumental math-rock trio Turing Machine (so named in honor of the hypothetical machine designed in 1936 by British mathematician Alan Turing which is the foundation of modern theories of computation and computability) reunited guitarist Justin Chearno and bassist Scott DeSimon, who previously teamed in DC noise combo Pitchblende.
Brother JT- "Off Blue" CD (Birdman) Combining the classic trappings of '60s psychedelic guitar rock with an eccentric spirituality, Brother JT records are deep, penetrable and seek to entertain. He has racked up a multitude of independend record labels with impeccable taste. His palate expands with each passing release.
Heavy pop, thick with guitars, thumping drums and stoned, tremulous melodies takes the listener on a trip through the complex patterns and designs that are unique to the mind of JT. From stretched-out zoner wail to agile, psychedelic strum, his body of work is singular, odd, outstanding and unimpeachable. It's a pretty tall order to name a contemporary artist with enough panache to carry on the legacy of wrecked pop and what writer Byron Coley would call "Blieb Alien rock" left behind by the likes of Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson, Skip Spence and sandbox-era Brian Wilson, but Brother JT is the only name worthy to stand alongside.
