    New Stock For The Week!
    Monday, December 10 2012 @ 08:21 AM CST
    Contributed by: Dave

These LP's kick off the weeks new arrivals list. More to follow.

    Swans- The Seer CDx2+LPx3
"The Seer took 30 years to make. It’s the culmination of every previous Swans album as well as any other music I’ve ever made, been involved in, or imagined. But it’s unfinished, like the songs themselves. It’s one frame in a reel. The frames blur, blend and will eventually fade. The songs began on an acoustic guitar, then were fleshed out with (invaluable) help from my friends, then were further tortured and seduced in rehearsals, live, and in the studio, and now they await further cannibalism and force-feeding as we prepare to perform some of them live, at which point they’ll mutate further, endlessly, or perhaps be discarded for a while. Despite what you might have heard or presumed, my quest is to spread light and joy through the world. My friends in Swans are all stellar men. Without them I’m a kitten, an infant. Our goal is the same: ecstasy!" - Michael Gira Special guests include Jarboe, Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker (Low), Karen O, Akron / Family, Big Blood, many more. Special limited CD edition features a bonus DVD. Vinyl includes digital download coupon "For the last two years, one of the world’s most bellicose bands has paid respect to its legacy largely by leaving it alone and tried to expand it by testing its old limits - this is exactly the kind of forward-pointing roadmark Swans deserve." - Pitchfork "[Gira] is looking for beauty, pure and simple, unfettered by meaning or standard songwriting notions of emotional resonance." - The Wire

Swans- My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky LPx2
After years of pursuing ANGELS OF LIGHT and recording and producing a diverse roster of artists for his label, Michael Gira has reconvened his legendary group Swans. As he says: "this is not a reunion. It’s not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After five Angels of Light albums, I need a way to move forward, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans allows me to do that". This highly anticipated album is as powerful and diverse as anything Gira has ever done, in Swans or otherwise. It opens with the epic, soul-crushing "No Words/No Thoughts", but quickly veers to more pastoral terrain, and on to ever-ascending monotonal grooves. A filmic-folk idyll featuring Devendra Banhart on lead vocal abruptly shifts to cataclysm, and is followed by more airplane-taking-off ascensions, art songs and lethal sonic pummeling. The vinyl edition includes a digital download coupon.

    King Crimson- Lizard CD+LP
Brand new reissue of their 3rd album from 1970 on deluxe 200 gram vinyl. This has always been my favorite KC album hands down. An absolute corker of art/jazz/rock experimentation and songwriting. The CD version is the standard single disc version.

    Kamelot- Silverthorn LPx2
Their latest album on double colored LP.

Lita Ford- Living Like A Runaway LPx2
Limited colored vinyl version with bonus CD.

    Frank Sinatra- Sinatra Swings LPx2
A great collection of uptempo tracks from late 50's. Double audiophile vinyl.

Dire Straits- Sultans Of Swing- Live In Germany LPx2
Double live album from early 80's.

Radiohead- Radiohead Rocks Germany 2001 LPx2
Back in stock on double vinyl.

Miles Davis- Isle Of Wight Concert LP
Two great improv tracks from 1970 at legendary Isle Of Wight festival. This was the beginning of Miles' electric fusion period. 180 gram vinyl.

    Descendents- Somery LP
Double LP compilation of their best tracks.

Skinless- Trample The Weak, Hurdle The Dead LP
2005. Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead is the fourth studio album by American death metal band Skinless. It is the first to feature new singer Jason Keyser.

Oasis- Dig Out Your Soul LPx2
Back in stock on double LP.

She And Him- Volume One LP
Volume One is the first album by She & Him, a collaboration between M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel. It was released by Merge Records on March 18, 2008.
Volume One received acclaim, and landed on the Village Voice's 'Pazz and Jop' poll as one of the year’s best albums and was named the best record of 2008 by Paste Magazine. Patrick Caldwell of the Austin American Statesman wrote "The album gently rambled through 13 tracks of sun-dappled pop, with a gentle Orbisonian charm and sweet, wistful vocals from Deschanel."

    INXS- Kick LP
Audiphile repressing on Mobile Fidelity's Silver Line series.

Pearl Jam- 1992 Radio Broadcasts LPx2
UK pressing on double coloured vinyl.

Jawbox- For Your Own Special Sweetheart LP
1994. For Your Own Special Sweetheart is the third album by Washington D.C. post-hardcore band, Jawbox. It was produced by Ted Nicely, best known for his work with Fugazi. It was their first album after leaving Dischord Records to sign to Atlantic Records. The album was not much of a commercial success, despite being well received by critics.

    Sonic Youth- Rather Ripped LPx2
Back in stock on double LP.

Moody Blues- Days Of Future Passed.
Days of Future Passed is the second album and first concept album by English rock band The Moody Blues, released in December 1967 on Deram Records. After two years performing as a struggling white R&B band, The Moody Blues were asked by their record label in September 1967 to record an adaptation of Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 as a stereo demonstration record. Instead, the band chose to record an orchestral song cycle about a typical working day.
Music writers cite the album as a precursor to progressive rock music. Bill Holdship of Yahoo! Music remarks that the band "created an entire genre here." Robert Christgau cites it as one of the essential albums of 1967 and finds it "closer to high-art pomp than psychedelia".

    Lumineers- S/T LP
In 2011, an eponymous, self-recorded EP led to touring, and before long The Lumineers started attracting devout fans. They're drawn by songs like "Ho Hey" and "Stubborn Love," Americana-inflected barn burners in the vein of the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons. The roots revival has primed listeners for a new generation of rustic, heart-on-the-sleeve music. The Lumineers walk that line with an unerring gift for timeless melodies and soul-stirring lyrics.

Nina Simone- Nina Simone Sings Ellington LP
Nina sings the songbook of Duke Ellington.

    Alchemist- Russian Roulette LPx2
Fresh off the heels of his Gangrene collaboration with MC/Producer Oh No, The Alchemist steps back into the spotlight announcing his 2012 project, Russian Roulette. A collection of 30 tracks woven into a tapestry of insanely obscure samples and jaw-dropping verses from the top names of indie-rap's recent resurgence: Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q, Action Bronson, Evidence, Roc Marciano, Mr. MFN. eXquire, Boldy James, and more. The Alchemist creates a cinematic musical experience interwoven through a continuous soundscape demonstrating the vast array of his musical palette.

Palace Music- Lost Blues & Other Songs LPx2
Lost Blues and Other Songs by Palace Music is a compilation of singles, rarities, and live tracks recorded by Will Oldham under various permutations of the Palace name from 1993-1997. This compilation was later followed by Guarapero/Lost Blues 2 (2000) and Little Lost Blues (2006).

Little Walter- Confessin' The Blues LP
Classic 50's Chicago blues from one of the great harmonica players of his era. Plus he could sing too! 180 gram vinyl.

Muddy Waters- Can't Get No Grindin' LP
Muddy's next-to-last Chess album, Can't Get No Grindin' (1973) marked a return to working with a band of his own after several experimental line-ups and recordings -- Pinetop Perkins took over the piano spot from the late Otis Spann, with Chess veteran harpist James Cotton aboard, and PeeWee Madison, and Sammy Lawhorn handling the guitars (apart from Muddy's axe, natch). The music is raw, hard-edged, and sharp (the guitars slash and cut), more like a successor to Muddy's classic 1950's sides (he rethinks a bunch '50s numbers here) than to the London Sessions, Super Blues, brass blow-outs, and psychedelic albums that he'd been doing. It's also easy to hear Muddy's heart in this release -- he fairly oozes soul out of every note he sings. The title track, "Sad Letter," and "Mother's Bad Luck Child" are all killer tracks, and most of the rest isn't far behind, though "Garbage Man" is the best known of the newer tracks, thanks to subsequent covers.

    Howlin' Wolf- Evil LP
Originally released on Chess Records in 1969, Evil is a reissue of Howlin' Wolf's 1959 compilation album Moanin' in the Moonlight which collected previously released singles spanning an eight year period from 1951-1958, beginning with his first single, 1951’s “How Many More Years” b/w “Moanin’ At Midnight” which immediately shot to the top of the R&B charts, all the way through to 1958’s “Moanin’ for My Baby.” Featuring the same 12-tracks with different sequencing including hypnotic, eerie and smoldering blues cuts like "Smokestack Lightning," "Somebody In My Home," "How Many More Years" and "No Place To Go," along with different cover art.

    Motorhead- Ace Of Spades LP
Back in stock on 180 gram vinyl.

    Jawbreaker- Bivouac LP
Jawbreaker was an American punk rock band active from 1986 to 1996 and considered one of the most influential acts of the early-1990s emo movement. Lead vocalist and guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach, bassist Chris Bauermeister, and drummer Adam Pfahler formed the band while students at New York University, later relocating to Los Angeles where they released their debut album Unfun (1990) through independent record label Shredder Records. Relocating again to San Francisco the following year, they released 1992's Bivouac through the Tupelo Recording Company and The Communion Label. Schwarzenbach's charisma and personal, frustrated lyrics helped to establish him as a cult idol, even as he underwent surgery to remove painful and voice-threatening polyps from his throat. Jawbreaker toured with Nirvana in 1993 and released 24 Hour Revenge Therapy in 1994, attracting the attention of major labels. They signed a $1 million contract with DGC Records and released 1995's Dear You, but the album's polished production and smooth vocals resulted in a significant backlash from the band's core audience. Internal tensions led to Jawbreaker's dissolution in 1996.

    Jay-Z- The Black Album LPx2
The Black Album is the eighth studio album by American rapper Jay-Z, released November 14, 2003, on Roc-A-Fella Records. It was promoted as his final studio album, which serves as a recurring theme, although Jay-Z returned to solo recording with Kingdom Come in 2006. Double LP.

Bailter Space- S/T (best of) CD
Nice compilation from one of the best shoegaze/rock bands to come out of New Zealand.

    Jessamine- S/T CD
1995. Over a series of tuneless vocals and duets, Jessamine's debut album presents some of the most intriguing noise-pop since My Bloody Valentine and Medicine were in their heyday. From the textural noise of the opener, it might be assumed that the group pursues distortion for its own sake, though later vocal tracks "Secret," "Royal Jelly Eye Cream" and "Inevitably" each include delicious pieces of guitar distortion that accents the fragile melodies exceptionally well. Slipping between abstract noise akin to label-mates Labradford and bass-driven pop songs may not be for everyone, but Jessamine does it better than most.

Little Axe- If You Want Loyalty Buy A Dog CD
More dub/blues/reggae mashup from this UK/USA team. "Guitarist and singer Skip McDonald has long been an anomaly in the On-U Sound stable, and that's saying something, given that On-U Sound has been the musical home to such magnificent oddities as African Head Charge, New Age Steppers, and Little Annie. What sets McDonald's work apart is the fact that it's equally deeply rooted in dubwise reggae as it is in Delta blues. If You Want Loyalty Buy a Dog finds him distilling his sound: assisted by legendary reggae studio bands Dub Syndicate and Roots Radics (whose backing tracks are a mish-mash of previously recorded material, reworked and rearranged for the album), McDonald moans and croons bluesy lyrics and plays aching slide guitar; the sound is dark and rich but strangely spare, with little of the dubbed-up craziness that usually characterizes the production style of On-U Sound producer Adrian Sherwood. The result is an album that is beautiful, gently funky, and deeply, deeply sad -- against all odds, McDonald has taken musical elements that have little in common with the blues and used them to draw out the blues' deepest essence."

Acid Mothers Temple- IAO Chant from the Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out CD
Acid Mothers Temple return with an expanded Melting Paraiso U.F.O. line-up, featuring the added guitar skills of Japan underground legend and new full-time member Tabata Mitsuru (Boredoms, Zeni Gava, Leningrad Blues Machine, etc.). IAO Chant from the Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out finds the band revisiting the past and once again taking Gong's infamous "Om Riff/Master Builder" to soaring new heights. This is a completely new studio version recorded in a new Japan, one that's still coming to terms with recent catastrophic events. Split into two almost equal parts, "OM Riff from the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. Parts 1 & 2," this is the sound of a reinvigorated AMT playing some of their most up-tempo and groove-based-riff-heavy music for some time. This is definitely more akin to the much-loved AMT live sound, and should appeal not only to long-time converts but pot-headed pixies and new kids rediscovering what guitar-based music is all about too.

Atomic Rooster- In Hearing Of CD
One of the great 70's UK hard rock bands led by Vincent Crane (Arthur Brown) on Hammond Organ & Pete French (Cactus) on vox. Wicked!

Florence & The Machine- Ceremonials LP
    Back in stock.

    Calexico- Algiers LP
Restock of their latest album. Comes with bonus CD included with vinyl.

    Avengers- S/T LP
One of the first and finest bands to emerge from San Francisco's punk scene, the Avengers were originally together for only two years, and they didn't release an album during that period. But their passionate music and uncompromising viewpoints proved to be a major inspiration in a scene that would grow and flourish long after they broke up, and the handful of singles they left behind documented a band of uncommon power and force. Just as importantly, lead singer Penelope Houston was one of the pioneering women of American punk, proving there was a place for female artists in the new music.
Although it was released in 1983, this collection represents just about everything San Francisco's late, great Avengers recorded from 1977-1978. By contemporary standards, it's by-the-book punk thrash: Greg Ingraham's guitar spews up hairball after hairball of distortion, while Penelope Houston snarls in her best impression of Johnny Rotten. However, contemporary standards diminish what great music this was and what a great band the Avengers were. Dozens of bands came in their wake, but few could recapture the excitement and ferocity of their sound. Houston, who re-emerged years later as a folk-rocker, is in full fury on these 14 tracks, especially the youth culture solidarity anthem "We Are the One" and the tale of desperation "Thin White Line." A few spins of this and you'll hear how the Avengers influenced everyone from Black Flag to X. Yes, they were that good. A forgotten classic.

    Ride- Going Blank Again LPx2
1992. From the sounds of the cloistered, chaotic opener, "Leave Them All Behind," Going Blank Again sounds like it could be headed down the same Nowhere path. Guitars as far as the ear can hear -- not much different from the effect gained after riding a sit-and-spin for eight straight minutes -- are just as dizzying as the prior record's opener. But rather than sink into a thick underbelly of melancholy, Going Blank Again offers sunshiney melodies and gleaming, bold production. All the band's elements are more pliable, and overall it's pretty cheery. In fact, some of the album could be loosely classified as power pop. Bouncy tunes like "Twisterella," "Not Fazed," "Mouse Trap," and "Time of Her Time" each share more than a thing or two in common with the likes of Teenage Fanclub, but with more layered vocals and less-cutting guitars. Though Ride's guitars don't bite as much, there are loads of them everywhere; the band doesn't completely sacrifice their love of reverberating noise, but it's more done in the name of pop than to merely cause a blistering racket.

Murphy's Law- The Party's Over LP
2001. The act of frenetic head-bobbing comes back with a vengeance on The Party's Over, the energetic Artemis debut by hardcore punksters Murphy's Law. The underground New York City group has had a revolving lineup through the years and on this set, listeners find former D Generation guitarist Rick Bacchus, bassist Sal Villaneuva (Demonspeed), and drummer Eric Arce (Skarhead) joining forces with original Murphy's Law frontman Jimmy G and producer Daniel Rey (Ramones, Misfits, and White Zombie). The result of this 2001 collaboration is 15 tracks of blistering, rowdy, and fast club punk, something that diehard fans should truly savor.

Baby Woodrose- Third Eye Surgery LP
If you’re Baby Woodrose frontman and principle songwriter Lorenzo Woodrose, the only place to go at this point is further out. On the band’s sixth album, Third Eye Surgery (Bad Afro Records), they do precisely that, pushing the established heavy psychedelic pop into more ethereal realms without sacrificing the structures and strong sense of composition that always makes the Copenhagen band’s work so memorable. Woodrose, also of Dragontears and once of the defunct On Trial, is the steering figure guiding the band down their path of lysergic enlightenment, and one can only assume from the title Third Eye Surgery, which connotes some willful act undertaken to open or repair one’s own metaphysical awareness, that he’s conscious of the shifts in sound he’s made over the course of these nine tracks. In conjunction with engineer Anders Onsberg, Woodrose also produced the record, so that goes even more toward proving the argument. But what stands out most about Third Eye Surgery, despite the periodic bursts of sitar on songs like “Nothing is Real” or the duet with vocalist Emma Acs on “Dandelion,” is what always stands out most about Baby Woodrose, and that’s the quality of the songwriting. Woodrose is a master of classic psych, and as he’s been doing it with Baby Woodrose now for over a decade since 2001’s Blows Your Mind!

    Black Angels- Passover LPx2
Back in stock on double LP.

Black Angels- Directions To See A Ghost LPx3
Back in stock on triple LP.

Bonecrusher- We Are The Working Class LP
We Are the Working Class album by Bonecrusher was released Oct 26, 2010 on the Knockout Entertainment label. 13 tracks of heavy punk rock.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds- Dig Lazarus Dig LPx2
    Double LP imported from Europe.

Clutch- Strange Cousins From The West LPx2
Beautiful deluxe packaging for this double LP.

Crime- San Francisco's Still Doomed LP
So great to have this material compiled on one convenient little "package" Even though these recordings are low-fi at best, dont let that scare you off - this is authentic ROCK N ROLL no matter what label you want to place on it, Punk or otherwise. This is timeless stuff & worthy of your attention. This is a flat-out AMAZING collection of studio recordings from "San Fransisco's first and only rock & roll band." Sound quality is pretty fine considering that these are most likely rehearsal room tapes, but then again a sterile studio sound wouldn't have suited these guys anyway. Crime were always outsiders and never really accepted by the so-called "hip" scenesters, and if THAT isn't the ESSENCE of rock and roll I don't know what is!

Alkaline Trio/One Man Army- Split LP
Nice split LP between these two bands on BYO label.

    Bouncing Souls/Anti-Flag- Split LP
Nice split LP between these two bands on BYO label.

    NOFX/Rancid- Split LP
Nice split LP between these two bands on BYO label.

    OST- Bullitt LP
Soundtrack to the 60's Steve McQueen movie. Music by Lalo Schifrin.

    Motorhead- Iron Fist LP
    Now on 180 gram vinyl.

    Monster Magnet- Superjudge LPx2
1993. Heavy metal meets spacerock with lots of twisted laffs along the way. Dave Wyndorf and his gang entertain completely on this their second album. Highlights include Brainstorm (Hawkwind), and Evil (Willie Dixon/Howlin' Wolf) that pays tribute to the Cactus version.

    Mogwai- Mr. Beast LPx2
2006. Vinyl imported from Holland. Possibly the most accessible yet sophisticated album Mogwai has released, Mr. Beast strips away most of the electronic embellishment of their recent work in favor of a back-to-basics sound that returns to and expands on the approach they pioneered on Young Team. Mr. Beast is also a surprisingly spontaneous-sounding album -- in the best possible sense, its freshness makes it feel like a recorded practice session and also helps give relatively delicate pieces like "Team Handed" the same amount of impact that heavy, searing tracks like the closer, "We're No Here," have.

Mogwai- The Hawk Is Howling LPx2
2008. With each album, Mogwai discovers new ways of balancing the power and subtlety of their music. On The Hawk Is Howling, the band returns to its roots, working with producer Andy Miller for the first time in a decade and delivering its first set of completely instrumental songs in several albums' time. This is the most massive Mogwai's music has felt in quite awhile -- and for a band that turns in expansive pieces as regularly as they do, that's saying something.

Modest Mouse- We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank LPx2
Back in stock on double LP.

Lee Scratch Perry- Kung Fu Meets The Dragon LP
Killer album of dub reggae from 1975. Fantastic cover art.

Leadbelly- Where Did You Sleep Last Night LP
Special Limited Edition vinyl from one of the most influential blues guitarist and vocalist of all time, Leadbelly, including the classic recordings “Goodnight Irene,” “The Boll Weevil,” “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” and many, many more!

Their debut album finally back in stock.

    Isis- Temporal LPx3+DVD
Career Retrospective of All the Rare and Unreleased Tracks from the Mighty ISIS Plus an Accompanying DVD of the Band's Videos!
ISIS and Ipecac Recordings present Temporal, a 3xLP/DVD retrospective collection of unreleased rarities, remixes and videos! Temporal spans the groundbreaking band's entire discography with inclusions from Mosquito Control through to the their final full-length album, Wavering Radiant. "It was fun and also very nostalgic collecting material for this release," explains Aaron Harris. "I hear our catalogue differently now that I'm not living with these songs day to day. This is a very special collection of outtakes, demos, unreleased tracks and videos; some of which I think we even forgot about." The 3LP-set also includes a DVD of all of ISIS' videos, making-of footage, live videos and much more! The quintessential fan piece for this influential band!

Howlin' Wolf- Killing Floor: Blues Essentials LP
Limited edition 12” vinyl featuring vintage recordings by America’s greatest post-war bluesman including the original 1956 studio recording of “Smokestack Lightning” plus “Killing Floor,” “Little Red Rooster” and many more!

    Gorilla Biscuits- Start Today LP
Hardcore icons Gorilla Biscuits came together in the late '80s to add their two cents to the straight-edge scene in New York City. Ironically enough though, their name came from the street term for Quaaludes. This 1989 album is considered their best.

    Gaslight Anthem- 45 7"
45 is the single taken from their latest album, and the b-side is an unreleased Tom Petty cover.
