    Morphine- The Night CD
Morphine's fourth studio release, 1997's Like Swimming, was a bit of a disappointment when compared to such stellar earlier releases as Cure for Pain and Yes. After singer/two-string bassist Mark Sandman died of a heart attack on-stage in 1999, many Morphine fans assumed that Like Swimming would be the band's swansong -- thankfully, it wasn't. The Boston trio completed their fifth album just prior to Sandman's untimely passing, entitled The Night, and it's definitely an improvement over its predecessor. Whereas many of the songs on their previous album sounded unfinished and rushed, The Night sounds like a fully realized work. In fact, the band took time to focus on expanding their minimalist sound to include other instruments (cello, violin, upright bass, oud, organ) and new approaches (female backup singers, string arrangements), while Sandman produced the album himself. Highlights include the ghostly "Souvenir," the Middle Eastern sounds of "Rope on Fire," the sultry album-opening title track, and the up-tempo (by Morphine standards, anyway) "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer." The Night shows that Morphine was just entering a new phase of their career, and it's a shame that Mark Sandman is no longer with us to follow through on this promising new direction. (Allmusic)

Mississippi John Hurt- 1928 Sessions LP
With his warm, gentle vocals and rhythmic guitar lines, Mississippi John Hurt's recordings represent a fascinating counterpoint to what is expected of Mississippi blues. His repertoire is a mixture of narrative ballads, traditional songs and blues. "The playing and tunes here are gentle and melodic, making Hurt perhaps the most accessible of all country bluesmen." - Guitar World

Blind Willie McTell- The Early Years 1927-33 LP
180 gram exact repro reissue of Yazoo's 1968 compilation of rare 78 rpm recordings from Blind Willie McTell. A record that put Yazoo on the map as an essential archival label of roots music. The very best of the magnificent Willie Samuel McTell -- aka Blind Willie aka Hot Shot Willie aka Georgia Bill -- exploring spiritual, ragtime, hillbilly, and above all, the blues.

    Dinosaur Jr- Chocomel Daze LP
Live 1987. Limited edition of 2,000 on 150-gram. You’re Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr., the groundbreaking album from the masters of alt-guitar rock, turns 25 this fall. To celebrate, Merge Records is releasing Chocomel Daze, a rare live show (featuring the classic, original line-up of J, Lou, and Murph) recorded in 1987 at Doornroosje, Nijmegen, Netherlands.

    Popol Vuh- Affenstunde LP
Brilliant debut by the godfathers of ambient and world music, Popol Vuh! Originally released in 1970, Affenstunde (literally "ape hour") was the first album by a German band to employ the extraordinary sounds of the Moog synthesizer. Blending electronics with traditional percussion instruments, Popol Vuh—led by the legendary multi-instrumentalist Florian Fricke - created a tribal and dreamlike blanket of sound that would go on to influence many-a-band on the krautrock scene and beyond. Popol Vuh would also soon famously begin to collaborate with Werner Herzog, composing many of the soundtracks to his films from this period (including Aguirre: The Wrath of God, Nosferatu and Fitzcarraldo). 140 gram LP.

    Cowboy Junkies- Trinity Revisited LPx2
180 gram vinyl edition. This live reinterpretation of the COWBOY JUNIKIES' seminal album 'The Trinity Session' features guests such as Ryan Adams, Natalie Merchant, Vic Chesnutt and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird. A full twenty years on from the original date of recording, the band's sibling mainstays revisited the same church in which the original was captured. The result is 'Trinity Revisited' which, although maintaining the same track listing, has a slightly different feel. The spontaneous jam-like aspects remain, but they are given a different personality by the guests, contributions.

Little Walter- Confessin' The Blues LP
180 gram LP. Made up of songs cut between 1953 and 1959 -- none of which had ever appeared on LP before the original 1974 release of this collection -- the selection features Walter in his prime, playing alongside Robert Lockwood, Jr. and Louis Myers or Luther Tucker on guitar (with Muddy Waters present on slide on one indispensable track, "Rock Bottom"), mostly Willie Dixon on bass, and Fred Below on the drums, with Lafayette Leake or Otis Spann on piano. - Allmusic

Justin Townes Earle- Nothing's Gonna Change... LP
Produced by JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE alongside longtime collaborator Skylar Wilson, 'Nothing's Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now' was recorded completely live with no overdubs over a four-day period at an old converted church recording studio in Asheville, NC. It is a decidedly soulful affair, with the fingerprints of Memphis all over it. This is Earle's fourth release and follows his critically acclaimed 2010 album, 'Harlem River Blues', which debuted at #47 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and led to a "Song Of The Year" award at the 2011 Americana Music Awards for the title track. Since his debut in 2008, Earle has toured consistently including performances at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest, Grand Ole Opry, Carnegie Hall, Bonnaroo and the Newport Folk Festival as well as recent appearances on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' and 'A Prairie Home Companion'. He also appeared on HBO's 'Treme' with his dad, troubadour Steve Earle.

    Soundgarden- King Animal LPx2
Their latest album back in on double LP.

Black Keys- The Big Come Up LP
Restock on a regular seller here at the store. This is their debut album in all it's lo-fi crusty glory.

    Bad Religion- True North CD+LP
Preeminent punk band Bad Religion will release their new album True North this January 22nd on Epitaph Records. In a world still brimming with rampant anti-intellectualism, inequality and oppression, the band’s signature brand of sonically charged humanist dissent seems as relevant as ever. On their newest record, the storied band deliberately revisits and refines the powerful and melodic Southern California sound they helped to define. "We went back to our original mission statement of short concise bursts of melody and thought," co-songwriter and guitarist Brett Gurewitz explains. "The intent was to record stripped down punk songs without sacrificing any conceptual density." With 16 songs clocking in at just 35 minutes, the band obviously succeeded in paring down the songs to their furious essence. Produced by the band and Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Coheed and Cambria, Tool), True North celebrates the stirring power of cogent punk in the face of pain and adversity. The result is one of the band’s most emotionally accessible albums to date.

    Bad Religion- No Control LP
    Back in stock.

Miles Davis- Birth Of The Cool LP
Back in stock on 180 gram vinyl.

Chet Baker- My Funny Valentine LP
A jazz classic here on LP.

    Love- De Capo LP
Da Capo is the second album by American rock group Love, released in January 1967 by Elektra Records. The bulk of Da Capo was recorded between September 27 and October 2, 1966. "7 and 7 Is" was recorded on June 20, and had been released as a single in July 1966 backed with "No. Fourteen", an outtake from their debut album. After the recording of "7 and 7 Is", Love's line-up expanded to include Michael Stuart on drums and Tjay Cantrelli on saxophone and flute, moving previous drummer Alban "Snoopy" Pfisterer, a classically trained pianist, to harpsichord and organ. Guitarists Johnny Echols and Bryan MacLean, bassist Ken Forssi and vocalist and leader Arthur Lee retained their respective positions.
The album's first half is a departure from the group's debut, and in some ways anticipates the group's third album, Forever Changes, with its detailed, delicate arrangements. Abrasive, proto-punk rockers like "7 and 7 Is" and the harpsichord-driven "Stephanie Knows Who" are balanced by lighter fare such as MacLean's florid "Orange Skies", and playful, barely classifiable pop tunes like "¡Que Vida!".
The album's second half is a single track, notable for being among the very first rock songs to take up an entire LP side (Bob Dylan's "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" from Blonde on Blonde predated it by a few months, and Frank Zappa's "The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet" suite, on the Freak Out! album, followed Dylan's by just over a month). The 19-minute jam, entitled "Revelation" began life as a live showcase for the group. Some sources claim it evolved out of their interpretation of Howlin' Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning", yet its original title was "John Lee Hooker." The song/jam bears a resemblance to the Rolling Stones' "Goin' Home," recorded at the same studio (RCA) and released earlier in the year, on Aftermath. Arthur Lee is quoted on the back cover of Rhino's 1980 LP compilation "Best of Love" :
The song "Revelation" was a long jam we did so the musicians could express themselves. The Rolling Stones saw us play at the Brave New World, and they recorded a long song on their next album. After our album came out, I got the blame for copying them!"

Queens Of The Stone Age- Rated R LP
Back in stock on vinyl. European import.
