Eno's 2nd solo album after leaving Roxy Music in early 70's.
Brian Eno- "Here Come The Warm Jets" LP (Polydor)
Japanese pressing of BE's 1st solo album. Robert Fripp guests.
Sepultura- "Chaos AD" CD (Roadrunner)
In stock as a German import.
Slant 6- "What Kind Of Monster" 7" (Dischord)
Slant 6 played their first show in the summer of 1992 with Myra Power (Lucky 13) on bass, Christina Billotte (Autoclave) on guitar and voice and Marge Marshall debuting on drums. The band recorded the 3 songs included on their debut single, 'What Kind of Monster Are You?' at Inner Ear Studios with Ian MacKaye in 1993. This re-issued edition of 'What Kind of Monster Are You?' was re-cut at Chicago Mastering Service from the original tapes.
NWA- "Straight Outta Compton" LPx2 (Priority)
Restock on vinyl.
Syd Barrett- "Opel" CD (Capitol)
For several years, the existence of "lost" material by Syd Barrett had been speculated about by the singer's vociferous cult, fueled by numerous patchy bootlegs of intriguing outtakes. The release of Opel lived up to, and perhaps exceeded, fans' expectations. With 14 tracks spanning 1968 to 1970, including six alternate takes and eight songs that had never been officially released in any form, it is equally as essential as his two 1970 LPs. The tone is very much in keeping with his pair of solo albums; ragged, predominantly acoustic, melodic, and teetering on the edge of dementia. At the same time, it's charming and lyrically pungent, with Barrett's inimitable sense of childlike whimsy. The production is generally more minimal than on his other albums, even bare-bones at times, but if anything, this adds to the music's stark power. Highlights are the lengthy brooding title track, the multi-layered swirl of "Swan Lee," the alternate take of "Dark Globe" (with much better, more restrained vocals than the previous version), and the exuberant, infectious "Milky Way." Meticulous liner notes and excellent sound complete this lovingly archival package.
Eagles Of Death Metal- "Death By Sexy" LP (Cargo/Germany)
Imported version on vinyl.
Wire- "Red Barked Tree" CD+LP (Pink Flag)
Brand new album from the legendary Wire.
Merle Haggard- "Mama Tried" LP (Capitol)
Reissued on 180 gram vinyl.
Roseanne Cash- "The List" LP (Manhattan Records)
After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's Black Cadillac, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with The List, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand, and it's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. The List is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well.
Willie Wright- "Telling The Truth" LP+7" (Numero)
Available for the first time since 1977, this expanded edition of northeast black troubadour WILLIE WRIGHT's 'Telling The Truth' album gathers his lone 45 and only original composition from his first LP to tell the definitive Willie Wright story. The deluxe LP edition includes a replica 7" of his cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Right On For The Darkness" (with his original "Africa" on the flip), while the CD takes that same single and shrinks it to a portable 4.72" record that actually plays! Born of Harlem doo-wop roots and refined by Boston's counterculture scene, Wright arrived in Nantucket in 1976 well worn by two decades of street corner and club performing, eager to make the easy money only a private yacht clientele could guarantee. Trapped on the island over winter, a set of original songs poured into his cover-heavy set. Tales of Wright's native roots, straight life, his abandoned four children, and the many women he had known flooded his loose leaf notebook before finally being set to tape in New York the following spring. 'Telling The Truth' was, and would remain, Willie Wright's brightest and most inspired moment. Sold from the trunk of a car and from a handful of resort stages, the humble album disappeared into the collections and garages of Nantucket tourists, taking what was left of a near-30-year career along with it.
Herbie Hancock- "River: The Joni Letters" LPx2 (Verve)
When Herbie Hancock released Possibilities (2005), a collaborative effort that paired the great pianist and composer with a group of pop and rock stocks from the world over, it was obvious the restless master was entering a new phase of his long career. In that context, River: The Joni Letters makes perfect sense. Hancock and his fine band -- Lionel Loueke (guitar), Wayne Shorter (soprano and tenor saxophones), Dave Holland (bass), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) -- prepare a series of instrumentals and vocal interpretations of the songs of Joni Mitchell. The vocalists here include those who were inspired by Mitchell, namely Norah Jones, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Mitchell herself on one number (her own recording, Shine, was released on the same day), and some of her peers in the pop world, including Tina Turner and Leonard Cohen. Cohen's connection to the songwriter is direct in that they are both Canadians and both came up playing clubs and venues in the then new "folk" scene. But Hancock understands something implicit about Mitchell: she was never -- ever -- a folksinger. Her compositions have always walked wildly adventurous rhythmic and harmonic terrain.

Nebula- "Apollo" CD (Century Media)

Fu Manchu- "We Must Obey" CD (Century media)

Bob Seger- "Smokin' OP's" CD (Capitol)
Guilty pleasure alert. Fantastic collection of cover tunes from a time when hardly anyone knew who Bob Seger was. Mind melting versions of songs like Bo Diddley & If I Were A Carpenter.
Death- "Scream Bloody Gore" LPx2 (Back On Black)
Restock on double colored vinyl.
Trembling Blue Stars- "The Last Holy Writer" CD (Elefant)
The Last Holy Writer is a comeback of sorts, certainly an improvement over 2004's "Seven Autumn Flowers", and maybe even one of their finest records. How did they do it? It's hard to say because on the surface it seems like not much has changed sound or mood-wise. There's still a preponderance of downbeat lyrics and Bob Wratten hasn't suddenly traded in his mope for a smile, no fear of that anytime soon. The building blocks of their sound are mostly the same too. What makes a difference here is a boost in the overall energy level from unrelenting gloom to mostly sad, a slightly expanded sonic palette that makes room for field recordings and a wider range of drum sounds, and most importantly, some really good songs.
Neu!- "S/T" CD+LP (Groen)
CD is the domestic version and vinyl (1st time) is on the Euro Groen label. A classic of the Krautrock genre.
Broken Social Scene- "Feel Good Lost" LPx2 (Arts & Crafts)
Restock on double 180 gram vinyl.
Spirit Caravan- "The Last Embrace" CDx2 (Meteor City)
Last Embrace serves as an impressive, if rather confusing, final will and testament from underground favorites Spirit Caravan, who quietly split up after a short but critically acclaimed two-album/one-E.P. run in the late '90s. Another brainchild of American metal icon Scott 'Wino' Weinrich (ex-Saint Vitus, ex-the Obsessed), Spirit Caravan could be said to have rated as the most acclaimed and trouble-free endeavor of his star-crossed career; so many longtime supporters were surprised and dismayed when it too was laid to rest in what seemed to be premature fashion.
Robert Plant- "Band Of Joy" LPx2 (Rounder)
Finally! Vinyl copies after months of waiting. Robert's acclaimed solo album from last year. Double LP in gatefold sleeve.
Greg Allman- "Low Country Blues" LPx2 (Rounder)
Allman joins forces with roots producer to the stars T-Bone Burnett, hoping that some of the latter's mojo can rub off on a singer who is one of the great white soul and blues vocalists in rock music. For the most part it does, as the duo choose 11 relatively obscure covers from classic artists such as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Junior Wells, and B.B. King that have clearly influenced Allman's musical approach. The backing is organic but far from stripped-down with horns, multiple guitars, and even background vocalists supporting the singer's patented crusty growl. From the opening raw thump of the ominous Sleepy John Estes' "Floating Bridge" to a peppy yet intense take on Muddy Waters' "I Can't be Satisfied" and a fiery reworking of Magic Sam's "My Love Is Your Love," Allman sounds invested and inspired by this material and his musical surroundings.
Budgie- "The Best Of" CD (Half Moon)
Back in stock.
Wanda Jackson- "The Party Ain't Over" CD+LP (Nonesuch)
Rockabilly queen makes another album at age of 73 supported by Jack White & crew. Gatefold LP plays a tune like a Hallmark card when you open it up.
Iron & Wine- "Kiss Each Other Clean" CD+LP (Warner)
Brand new album. Vinyl comes with bonus CD.
Joe Farrell- "Canned Funk" CD (CTI)
Joe Farrell's final of six CTI dates has fairly lengthy versions of four of his originals. Farrell, who adds baritone to his usual trio of instruments (tenor, soprano and flute), once again welcomes guitarist Joe Beck as his co-star, along with bassist Herb Bushler, drummer Jim Madison and percussionist Ray Mantilla. The music is melodic, sometimes funky, and enjoyable if not essential, but all of Joe Farrell's CTI sets are worth acquiring.
Ray Condo & His Ricochets- "Door To Door Maniac" CD (Joaquin)
Available again! 1997 album from the late singer/saxophonist Ray Condo and his group The Ricochets. 'Door To Door Maniac' swoops and soars on 12 songs that feature a juicy and gutsy amalgam of rockabilly, Western Swing, small-group jazz, R&B and country, combined with a tight, swinging instrumental sound.
Ray Condo & His Ricochets- "High & Wild" CD (Joaquin)
The final album from the late, much loved Vancouver/Montreal artist, originally issued in 2000. 'High & Wild' is a raucous, swooping, fiery blend of rockabilly, swing, western swing and jazz, played with the fire and joy this music had decades ago - the album features the best of the boys' excursions into the most obscure corners of musical history. Joining singer/ saxophonist Condo on 'High & Wild' are Jimmy Roy, Stephen Nikleva, new bassist/vocalist Peter Turland and original drummer Steve Taylor.
White Stripes- "White Blood Cells" LP (Third Man)
Now reissued on Jack's own label.
Raconteurs- "Consolers Of The Lonely" LPx2 (Warner)
Back in stock after lengthy absence. Double LP in triple gatefold sleeve.
The Clash- "Give'm Enough Rope" LP (DPR)
The Dirtbombs- "Party Store" CD (In The Red)
Nearly ten years after their critically-acclaimed album 'Ultraglide In Black' helped kick-start a renewed interest in all things Detroit and rock 'n' roll, The DIRTBOMBS release the de facto companion piece entitled 'Party Store'. Where 'Ultraglide' was a covers collection of 60s and 70s soul gems centered on the ideas of African-American identity and politics of the era that made an impression on a young, pre-musical Mick Collins as he listened to them on 45s in the family basement, 'Party Store' is an assortment of live band interpretations of classic Detroit techno music of the 80s and early 90s (originally by artists like Kevin Saunderson, Cybotron, Derrick May, Innerzone Orchestra aka Carl Craig, etc.) - songs Collins digested as they were originally released, when he was already making waves with garage-punk legends The Gories. The players' recreation of the sequenced, digital rhythms and melodies stems from an Oblique Strategies card pulled during the recordings: "humanize something that is without error". And they do so with a crisp, krautrock like precision on originals that all featured drum machines, sequencers and synthesizers.
Down- "Diary Of A Mad Band" LPx3+DVD (ILG)
Recent release of live album with bonus DVD included.
Nick Drake- "Pink Moon" CD (Island)
Nick's final album of sad/bleak acoustic tunes.
Russian Futurists- "The Weights On The Wheels" CD (Upper Class)

Ryan Adams- "Heartbreaker" LPx2 (Cobraside)
Ryan's first solo album.
Foo Fighters- "Greatest Hits" LPx2 (Sony)
Foo Fighters- "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" LP (RCA)
Monotonix- "Not Yet" CD (Drag City)
Recorded by Steve Albini, 'Not Yet' is the second MONOTONIX full-length album, focusing the Tel Aviv band's energy like a beam, searing away everything extraneous, leaving only the essentials. Monotonix are kicking it with pure, slamming rawness from start to finish on 'Not Yet', with short and fast songs, direct to the point; Yonatan's riffs, doubled up and driving forward, Haggai rattling jaws with blow after blow on the kit as Ami sings and screams of you and me, of the thrill and dismay of too much, of action and release, his voice almost swallowed in the din but cutting through with the rigor of a scalpel and the fury of a fanatic. 'Not Yet' is the livest, loudest, most focused set of songs and sounds that we and Monotonix can have.
Albert King- "The Big Blues" LP (Gusto)
Reissue of ALBERT KING's debut album for King Records (not named after him), originally released in 1961. Budget priced.
Social Distortion- "Hard Times & Nursery Rhymes" CD+LPx2 (Epitaph)
Brand new album! CD & vinyl in stock. Double LP comes with bonus CD.
Tangerine Dream- "Cyclone" CD (Virgin)
A welcome reissue and one that marks an interesting transition in Tangerine Dream's existence -- this was the first TD album to incorporate lyrics and vocals (from Steve Jolliffe, who also contributed wind instruments and keyboards). By this point, the nucleus of the band was down to Edgar Froese and Christopher Franke, with the sound centering more on shifting arpeggiation over percussive rhythm structures, with "Madrigal Meridian" being an impressive example of this. Jolliffe's vocal contributions on "Bent Cold Sidewalk" and "Rising Runner Missed by Endless Sender" provide an aggressive edge that effectively catapults the listener from the hypnotic pulse that Tangerine Dream are best known for.
Destroyer- "Kaputt" CD+LPx2 (Merge)
Dan Bejar started Destroyer in Vancouver as a solo home-recording project in the early to mid-1990's and has gone from strength-to-strength over the years (ask Pitchfork). 'Kaputt', Destroyer's ninth album, follows the limited edition "Bay Of Pigs" and "Archer On The Beach" 12" singles, both of which quickly sold out. The album is inspired by Vancouver's Chinatown, 80's Miles Davis, 90's Gil Evans, and much more. The 2LP edition adds an exclusive 20 minute bonus track and download coupon.

Mavis Staples- "You Are Not Alone" CD +LPx2 (Anti)
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and soul/gospel legend Mavis Staples delivers more wall-to-wall joy on her triumphant new Anti- album, You Are Not Alone, than any other release you’re likely to hear this year. Produced by fellow Chicagoan Jeff Tweedy at Wilco’s studio The Loft, the intimate and textured production showcases the iconic singer at her most powerful and fervent. You Are Not Alone mixes traditional gospel numbers with two new songs written for Mavis by Tweedy, plus her unique interpretations of songs by Pops Staples, Randy Newman, Allen Toussaint, John Fogerty, Rev. Gary Davis and Little Milton. Double vinyl version contains bonus CD included.
Big Boi- "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty" LP (Def Jam)
Big Boi has no shortage of friends, so it's only right that on his new solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, the Big Boi is joined by a slew of guests. On the production side, Scott Storch (who helmed "Shutterbug"), Salaam Remi (Nas, Fugees), Organize Noise, the rapper's own Boom Boom Room producers and Boi-1da (perhaps best known for his work on Drake's "Best I Ever Had") contribute to the set.
Sufjan Stevens- "BQE" LP (Asthmatic Kitty)
Sufjan Stevens is proud to present The BQE, a cinematic suite inspired by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the Hula-Hoop. Commissioned by Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The BQE was originally performed in the Howard Gilman Opera House in celebration of the 25th anniversary Next Wave Festival in October of 2007.
