    Contributed by: Dave

Here's the rough sketch of my top 20 for 2004. These are in no particular order because I've never been big on deciding what's better than what. The list could have been twice as long, but what the hay. I'll be adding some basic descriptions in a few days, in the meantime........

Richard Buckner- Dents & Shells (Merge)
Kings Of Convenience- Riot On An Empty Street (Virgin)
Chuck Prophet- Age Of Miracles (New West)
Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter- Oh, My Girl (Barsuk)
The Fall- The Real New Fall LP (Narnack)
    Bad Wizard- #1 Tonight (Howler)
Mr. Airplane Man- C'mon DJ (Sympathy...)
    Luna- Rendevouz (Jetset)
King Cobb Steelie- Destroy All Codes (Outside)
    Dave Alvin- Ashgrove (Yep Roc)
Comets On Fire- Blue Cathedral (Sub Pop)
    The Unintended- S/T (Blue Fog)
Black Keys- Rubber Factory (Fat Possum)
Radio Dept.- Lesser Matters (XL Recordings)
These Arms are Snakes- Oxeneers Or The Lion Sleeps When It's Antelope Go Home (Jade Tree)
The Sadies- Favourite Colors (Yep Roc)
The Paybacks- Harder & Harder (Get Hip)
The Von Bondies- Pawn Shoppe Heart (Sire)
    Patty Griffin- Impossible Dream (ATO)
Iron & Wine- My Endless Numbered Days (Sub Pop)

I'll Finish Up Soon.............In fact if you have a top 10 that you'd like to submit, send it to me at dave@xrayrecords.ca and I'll try to post some of the better ones. Please include your full name and all the details of your list, such as Artist, Title, Label etc. thanx.....

Smaller than usual list for this week due to shipping miscalculation from one of my major suppliers, which means there will be more than usual next week. Check music archives for all the other previous lists.............

It's hump day and I'm feeling a tad groggy from my exploits at the pool hall last night. Good thing no money was on the line since one dirty rat turned out to be a bit of a shark (showing up with his own cue was the 1st clue). All in the name of good clean mid-week fun. Business moves ahead on an even keel here at X-Ray central. Lots of fantastic new CD's in this week, Dave Alvin, Reverend Horton Heat, King Cobb Steelie, Jet Black Crayon, plus new releases fresh from Sub Pop Records and Hellcat too. Some slick vinyl reissues of Richard Hell & the Voidoids, early Ted Nugent, Thelonius Monk, and new LP's from The Ponys and Bad Religion. Last week was nuts for Stoner/Doom Rock fans with new releases from Electric Wizard, Witchcraft, Pod People, and a cool compilation of exclusive trax on a "High Times" (the magazine) cd called "High Volume", bands include Orange Goblin, Clutch, Bad Wizard and the amazing Unida (John Garcia- vocalist with Kyuss). All this plus a new shipment of Flags just arrived and a box of Trailer Park Boys T-shirts which are so funny I may wet myself. Stop by and peruse in air conditioned comfort.

It's hot outside man, but I don't care 'cause it's cool times 5 here at X-Ray Records in our new air-conditioned digs. Remember the old place? It was like a kiln. Hotter inside than out. This is sweet, nothin' to worry about except doin' business, enjoying my thermos of saigon dark java and watching internet baseball in climate controlled comfort. Hey, I just remembered that the store is open on July 1st (Canada Day) from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm. Hope to see you with your big hangover!

Here I am sitting at work on my day off doing this. What a human loser. Now that I've got the new laptop fired up at the store it will provide me the oppurtunity to do this kind of stuff here, and that will free up countless hours at home for me to do probably nothing. Good thing I did show up today 'cause it's been kinda busy. Lotsa people still don't really know the store hours. Good time last friday night @ the State with the Farrell Brothers who've retooled their rockabilly sound to a much harder r'n'r edge. Good stuff. Locals Los Diablos sounded better then I've heard them in the past (must be that new Brian Setzer model Gretsch Geetar) and n.k.o.t.b. The Explosives really raised a few eyebrows with their melding of new garage/rock with some old cramps style things. They'll only get better. Missed Lil' Miss Higgins, but I heard it was up to par. Proceeds went to CJTR. Other then that, not much going on. Went to the new Tom Hanks movie "Terminal" which wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Jammed with some buddies on saturday night and payed the price all day sunday. Adding to which "Deadwood" wasn't on this week and that further browned me off. I guess if that's all I've got to complain about things can't be that bad. Later.........
